Welcome to DO MAKES, a family-run creative space based in Columbus, Ohio.

Our story began with my parents-in-law, a talented artist couple from New York City. Their original paintings capture the essence of life, drawing inspiration from nature, emotion, and personal experiences, shaped by decades of dedication and passion for art.

At DO MAKES, we proudly share two forms of handmade and family-inspired art:

• Original paintings by Rosemary Duda and Angelo Franco, each telling a story and bringing warmth, beauty, and inspiration into everyday spaces.
• Handmade crochet and knit creations by me, Van, crafted one by one with care and attention to detail. From charming teddy bears to cozy accessories, each piece is unique and designed to bring joy and comfort to its owner.

Our name, DO MAKES, reflects our philosophy: “Do” represents action, creativity, and bringing ideas to life, while “Makes” highlights our passion for handmade art and thoughtful craftsmanship. Together, it embodies our goal of sharing creativity, warmth, and joy with everyone who experiences our work.

Running DO MAKES is a family effort. My husband, a musician, supports me in sharing our creations and bringing our family story to life.

ROSEMARY DUDA

Hailing from New York City, Rosemary Duda earned her BA in Art History from the University at Buffalo. Now settled in Central Virginia, she passionately creates art in her studio, often engaging in plein air and sketching groups that deepen her appreciation for nature’s beauty.

Inspired by flowers, landscapes, and the natural world, her artwork appeals to collectors and nature enthusiasts alike. Rosemary’s landscape and still life pieces showcase a distinct viewpoint, inviting viewers to embrace the tranquil elegance of nature. An active member of various art associations, her work has graced numerous regional exhibitions. Every painting narrates a tale, providing a serene retreat while infusing character into any home or collection.

ANGELO FRANCO

Angelo Franco is a distinguished visual artist whose work encourages audiences to view the world through an emotional lens. With over 45 years of painting experience, his artistic journey began at the Art Students League in New York City from 1976 to 1980. This dedication quickly resulted in his first sale and a network of private collectors, while also fostering a lifelong partnership with his wife, whom he met in the art studio.

The nature and innovative spirit of artists inspire Franco’s creations. His artistic process blends instinct and emotion, rooted in sharp observation while aiming to surpass the visible. Franco’s artwork captures fleeting moments, weaving complex narratives that balance harmony with chaos.

For him, art is more than a career; it’s a lens for understanding the world. His pieces, treasured by collectors, resonate deeply with those seeking visual and narrative richness.
